The ability to apply scientific knowledge typically covered in school Science and Mathematics by the age of 16 Section 2 is based on the knowledge typically included in non-specialist school Science and Mathematics courses. It tests your ability to apply this knowledge – possibly in unfamiliar contexts. Find a test centre. Ask your school’s Exams Officer if the school is already registered as a BMAT test centre. If your school isn’t a BMAT test centre, and doesn’t want to/can’t register to become one, you’ll need to find a test centre from the BMAT’s network of test centres.

Bmat is designed to be demanding for very able candidates applying to study Medicine and other related subjects. Work through some practice papers and then look at the explained answers to help you review your work. Section 1: Thinking Skills (60 minutes – 32 multiple choice). This section tests generic skills in problem solving and critical thinking. It is not overly lengthy unlike typical textbooks. This makes it easy to read and digest. Furthermore, it contains just the right amount of information, considering that all the questions will be MCQs i.e. you do not have to be able to write any explanations with exact phrasing.Some students, especially those who are well underway with preparing for the UCAT, find Section 1 easier as it tests similar skills to the UCAT Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections. The specimen and 2020 question papers below are in the new format for Section 1: Thinking Skills, now consisting of 32 Problem Solving and Critical Thinking questions. Confession: I think I only wrote one complete BMAT essay for practice. Candidates should be able to sit the test locally as test centres are available both in the UK and overseas (UK secondary schools and colleges will be able to administer the test to their students). Participating universities may also provide test centres and/or supplementary testing sessions. You should allow at least a month (ideally six weeks or longer) to prepare thoroughly and get through plenty of BMAT practice tests and questions. Spreading out your revision will help you to prepare for the exam with less stress.
